Pakistan Slams India Over Human Rights Abuses in IIOJK

Islamabad (TDI): Pakistan has strongly criticized India for relentless atrocities and state-backed terrorism against Kashmiris in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

In a statement issued Friday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) highlighted the stark contrast between conditions in IIOJK and those in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK). While people in AJK actively participate in shaping their democratic future, the ministry noted, residents of IIOJK continue to face widespread human rights abuses.

“Pakistan remains committed to safeguarding the dignity and rights of people in AJK, including their freedom to assemble and protest peacefully,” the statement read. “This commitment is not only a constitutional duty but also a moral responsibility toward the people of Jammu and Kashmir.”

Islamabad urged New Delhi to honor its international obligations, including those under the UN Charter, instead of leveling unfounded allegations about AJK.

“The use of brute force, curbs on fundamental freedoms, and systematic violations have become the hallmark of India’s state-sponsored terrorism in IIOJK,” the ministry said. It further criticized India for attempting demographic changes and suppressing dissent through repressive measures.

Reiterating its long-standing stance, Pakistan called for granting Kashmiris their right to self-determination as promised in relevant UN Security Council resolutions. The statement stressed that resolving the Kashmir dispute was essential for durable peace and stability in South Asia.

The Foreign Office remarks came as formal talks resumed in Muzaffarabad between the Jammu Kashmir Awami Action Committee (JKAAC) and a government-appointed team. The JKAAC has been protesting in AJK, pressing demands such as abolishing 12 reserved refugee seats and cutting back on privileges for the elite.
