The Taliban government in Afghanistan is pushing for the release of billions of dollars from the central bank to ease drought-stricken Afghanistan, which faces mass starvation, a cash crunch, and a new immigration crisis.
The Taliban in August ousted the Western-backed government in Afghanistan. Since then, Afghanistan-owned assets worth billions in Europe with the US Federal Reserve have been frozen.
Moreover, a spokesperson for the finance ministry, Ahmad Wali Haqmal, on Friday also claimed that they are looking for additional funds to augment the humanitarian aid that offered “small relief”, adding that the government would respect human dignity, including women’s education.
