Islamabad (TDI): Federal Minister for Energy Sardar Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari on Thursday suggested utilizing France’s Green Fund to support the transition of small vehicles in Pakistan to electric technology.
The proposal was made during a meeting between the minister and French Ambassador Nicolas Galey in Islamabad.
The federal minister said that Pakistan has already introduced an Electric Vehicle (EV) policy, which is likely to save 6 billion dollars annually in fuel costs while ensuring environmental protection.
Ambassador Galey commended Pakistan’s effective negotiations and successful revisions of deals with Independent Power Producers (IPPs).
He further highlighted France’s readiness to provide financial assistance for EV initiatives and other reforms.
Leghari announced the government’s upcoming introduction of a power wheeling policy and plans to auction surplus electricity.
He also highlighted advancements in power recovery and reduced line losses through neutral boards, stating that solar energy is being actively promoted, noting that the the promotion of solar energy has ushered in a “solar revolution” in the country.
He further said that all reforms are being implemented transparently, creating considerable investment opportunities in the power sector.

“Pakistan is making considerable progress in renewable energy and green projects,” the minister said.
The French envoy welcomed these developments and vowed support for Pakistan’s reforms, especially in the energy and EV sectors.
Both sides agreed to further strengthen collaboration to stabilize the power sector and foster sustainable development.
