Cairo, 10 October 2023 (TDI): Pakistan’s Caretaker Federal Health Minister, Dr. Nadeem Jan, held a meeting with Fahad bin Abdurrahman Al-Jalajel, Saudi Arabia’s Health Minister, during the 70th session of the World Health Organization Eastern Mediterranean in Cairo today.
Both countries mutually agreed to enhance their collaboration in the healthcare sector.
In the high-level meeting, Federal Minister Dr. Nadeem Jan emphasized the Ministry of Health’s initiatives such as Pharma Park, Global Health Security, and the continuous endeavor for polio eradication.
The Health Minister of Saudi Arabia expressed his appreciation for the idea and conveyed his readiness to support Pakistan in establishing the proposed Pharma Park.
He pledged complete support for Pakistan’s new healthcare initiatives during the meeting.
Dr. Nadeem Jan and the Saudi Health Minister discussed potential collaborations in vaccine production and expressed their support for enhancing Pakistan’s vaccine manufacturing capabilities.
Both ministers reached an agreement to facilitate the exchange of expertise by deploying teams of health experts, to formalize the transfer of technology in the healthcare sector.
Federal Health Minister expressed gratitude for Saudi Arabia’s support to Pakistani doctors during the meeting.
Productive discussions on knowledge exchange in Nursing and Paramedics took place, and the Saudi Health Minister agreed to dispatch a high-level team from Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Health to formalize a memorandum of understanding (MOU) soon.
Dr. Nadeem Jan conveyed that Pakistan is dispatching a team of doctors and paramedics, along with a 30-bed field hospital equipped with all necessary diagnostic and life-saving emergency interventions, to Afghanistan.

The Saudi Health Minister expressed appreciation for this gesture and informed that the King Salman Relief Centre is actively engaged in providing emergency relief to the earthquake victims as well.
The minister informed the Saudi Health Minister about the upcoming Global Health Security Summit that will take place in Pakistan.
The Saudi Health Minister expressed appreciation and mentioned that this summit would play a significant role in enhancing health security capabilities, thereby improving pandemic preparedness and response.
He also assured the Saudi government’s complete support in ensuring the success of this summit.
