Pakistan to Sign $2bn Agreements with Saudi Arabia: Shehbaz

Islamabad (TDI): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said on Tuesday that the government will sign agreements worth $2 billion with Saudi Arabia later this week.

He made this announcement during the federal cabinet meeting today.

Pakistan is set to host a high-level delegation from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) led by Minister for Investment Khalid Bin Abdulaziz Al-Falih from October 9 to 11.

During the meeting, the premier said that friendly countries, such as Saudi Arabia, China and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) helped Pakistan secure the International Monetary Fund (IMF) deal by timely confirmation of required financing assurances.

Shehbaz apprised his cabinet about the successful visit of the Malaysian prime minister and that a Saudi delegation was about to visit the country next.

Commenting on PTI’s protest in Islamabad, the premier said the opposition party was doing this to “stay relevant” as the economy was improving.

“They did this in 2014 when the economy was improving. Now, they are doing the same as the IMF programme has been started successfully, inflation has decreased and exports are increasing,” he said.

Shebaz added that PTI wanted to “sabotage” the government’s “homegrown growth programme.”

“We will not allow it to be repeated. We will not tolerate it at any rate, at any cost. This is my promise. I will not let it happen.”

About the tragic death of two Chinese citizens in the Karachi blast, Shehbaz said he had assured the Chinese ambassador in Pakistan of foolproof security for Chinese nationals in Pakistan.

The premier said no stone will be left unturned to ensure unbreachable security for the Chinese nationals.
