ISLAMABAD, (TDI): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with Russian counterpart Mikhail Mishustin today at the Prime Minister’s House, where they explored a wide array of topics aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation.
This meeting comes as Mishustin wraps up a two-day visit to Pakistan for the 23rd Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Heads of Government meeting.
During their discussions, both leaders acknowledged the positive trajectory of Pakistan-Russia relations over the past two decades, underscoring the necessity of sustained dialogue and collaboration across various sectors, including trade, industry, energy, connectivity, science, technology, and education.
Prime Minister Sharif, reflecting on his recent visit to Moscow, expressed a strong desire to forge a lasting friendship with Russia, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to deepening political, economic, and defense ties.
The leaders agreed to strengthen their collaboration in multilateral forums, such as the United Nations and the SCO, with Sharif expressing gratitude for Russia’s support of Pakistan’s bid for BRICS membership, which he sees as pivotal for enhanced global cooperation.

In addition, Sharif recounted a productive meeting with President Vladimir Putin in Astana this past July, where they discussed strategies for elevating bilateral relations. He emphasized the importance of establishing direct flights between the two nations to boost connectivity.
Prime Minister Mishustin praised Pakistan for the exceptional arrangements made for the SCO meeting and thanked Sharif for the warm hospitality extended to him and his delegation.
He expressed a keen interest in further advancing cooperation between the two countries.
Both leaders agreed on the importance of fostering cultural exchanges to strengthen people-to-people ties and enhancing collaboration between their banking sectors to facilitate trade and investment.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to maintain close collaboration on mutual interests, signaling a promising future for Pakistan-Russia relations.
The Army chief General Asim Munir, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb and others ministers also attended the delegation level meeting.
