Pakistan Rules Out New Military Cooperation with Iran

Islamabad (TDI): Defense Minister Khawaja Asif has confirmed that Pakistan has not entered into any new military arrangements with neighboring Iran in the wake of Israel’s recent attacks on Iranian territory.

He also clarified that no specific discussions have taken place with the United States concerning the escalating tensions in the region.

In an interview with Arab News, Khawaja Asif said Islamabad continues its ongoing coordination with Tehran regarding security along the shared frontier, particularly to counter cross-border militancy.

However, he was clear that no new military coordination has emerged since the Israeli strikes began on June 13.

“There is no fresh activity. We already have a mechanism for border coordination due to persistent security threats in those areas,” Asif stated. “I don’t see any need for additional arrangements at this stage.”

Regarding Washington, the defense minister noted that while routine diplomatic channels remain open, no recent consultations have occurred specifically in relation to the latest crisis.

“We are in regular contact with the US on regional matters, but there hasn’t been any focused dialogue on this development in the last five days,” he said.

Instead, Asif emphasized that Pakistan is working closely with countries in its immediate vicinity, as well as key allies such as China, to encourage restraint and de-escalation.

“Our goal is to pursue peace,” he added. “Whether it’s China or other nations with religious and geographic ties to us, we are in contact to help prevent the situation from spiraling out of control. A full-scale regional conflict would be catastrophic.”

As smoke continues to rise from sites hit in Iran, the international community remains on edge, watching closely to see whether diplomacy can contain a conflict that has the potential to consume the wider region.
