Islamabad (TDI): Coordinator to the Prime Minister of Pakistan on Climate Change, Romina Khurshid Alam, has urged the international community to support Pakistan and other developing countries in fully leveraging the benefits of new carbon markets.
Addressing an event in Islamabad today, while higlighting climate related issues in Pakistan, she stated that developed countries must fulfill their pledges by providing financial and technical support to address the challenge of climate change, according to state-run media.
In November last year, The Baku conference (COP 29) adopted a new collective quantified goal on climate finance destined towards developing countries, and finalised the rules for the operationalisation of Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, which provides for bilateral and global carbon trading.

The developed nations had also pledged support the developing countries in this regard which is still awaited.
Pakistan is Ready to Adopt COP 29 Guidelines
Romina Khurshid Alam emphasized that Pakistan stands ready to adopt and implement the carbon guidelines approved at COP 29 in Baku by maintaining high standards of integrity and transparency.
She described the approval of these guidelines as a watershed moment in international climate cooperation.

Pakistan is among world’s those countries that has adopted SDGs of the United Nations, including environment and climate related SDG, as its national policy.
Pakistan has been badly hit by devastating floods and calamities due to the climate change in the last couple of years.
