Pakistan, Qatar Pledge to Deepen Defense Collaboration

Doha (TDI): President Asif Ali Zardari met with Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman, Qatar’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defense Affairs, on the sidelines of the Second World Summit for Social Development in Doha.

The meeting focused on strengthening the already close and historic ties between Pakistan and Qatar, with a particular emphasis on enhancing cooperation in defense and security.

During the discussions, President Zardari expressed satisfaction with the current collaboration between the armed forces of both nations, which includes joint training, capacity-building efforts, and defense production.

He highlighted the importance of expanding bilateral ties through joint military exercises, advancing defense technology, and fostering an exchange of expertise, all aimed at promoting regional peace and stability.

Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman commended the professionalism of the Pakistan Armed Forces and reaffirmed Qatar’s commitment to deepening defense relations with Pakistan.

He reiterated Qatar’s interest in joint defense production and collaborative defense projects, expressing readiness to expand such initiatives in the future. He also assured Qatar’s support for facilitating peace and stability in the Afghan conflict.

The President appreciated Qatar’s continued support and said that Pakistan remained committed to further strengthening its strategic partnership with Qatar in diverse fields, including defense and security.

First Lady Bibi Aseefa Bhutto Zardari, Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Pakistan’s Ambassador to Qatar were also present during the meeting.
