New York, 20 September 2023 (TDI): Prime Minister of Pakistan, Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar held a meeting with the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, H.E Ebrahim Raisi, on the sidelines of the 78th Session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, on September 19.

Prime Minister, Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar has underlined Pakistan’s strong commitment to advancing and deepening relations with Iran, particularly in the area of commerce.

He also emphasized the deep historical ties between the two neighboring nations during a meeting with the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ebrahim Raisi.

Antonio Guterres, UN Secretary-General inaugurated the 78th session of the UNGA, highlighting the theme of “Rebuilding trust and reigniting global solidarity: Accelerating action on the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals towards peace, prosperity, progress and sustainability for all.”

In a statement, Prime Minister Kakar underlined, “the close fraternal relations between the two neighboring countries and reaffirmed Pakistan’s strong commitment to further strengthen and deepen these ties, with particular focus on enhancing cooperation in the economic domain.”

The recent opening of the Mand-Border border marketplace, among other initiatives, will help the border regions’ economies while also demonstrating both sides’ commitment to working for the welfare of their respective populations, the Prime Minister said.

“Both nations make use of their special geographic location to support shared objectives of regional peace and development, including more commerce and better regional connectivity,” he said.

Caretaker Prime Minister also stated that President Raisi’s policy of ‘Neighborhood First’ fully aligned with Pakistan’s vision for regional connectivity.

Regular high-level exchanges, commonality of views on important regional and global issues, and strengthened cooperation in all areas of mutual interest characterize Pakistan-Iran relations.

Prime Minister Kakar has embarked on a five-day trip to the United States. His itinerary includes delivering a speech at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) this Friday.

Additionally, he has scheduled meetings with Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and plans to attend a reception hosted by U.S. President Joe Biden, which will honor leaders from around the world.
