ISLAMABAD, (TDI): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has stated that October 8 is one of the darkest days in the country’s history.

National Resilience Day is being observed on Monday across the country, including Azad Jammu & Kashmir, to commemorate the 19th anniversary of the deadly earthquake of October 8, 2005.

In his message on the occasion, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif extended heartfelt condolences to those who suffered loss of life and property during that calamity.

He also highlighted the catastrophic floods of 2022, which he described as a monumental disaster that surpassed all previous records.

He praised the enduring spirit of the Pakistani people and institutions, which have consistently demonstrated remarkable resilience amid climate change-induced crises.

“Despite contributing minimally to climate change, Pakistan faces severe impacts from unpredictable extreme weather events that have devastated our economy,” he stated.

Shehbaz Sharif commended the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) for its unwavering dedication to disaster response and preparedness.

He emphasized the importance of a robust national response mechanism, stating, “NDMA’s National Emergencies Operation Center (NEOC) utilizes cutting-edge technology to create early warning systems that save lives and protect infrastructure.”
