Islamabad (TDI): Pakistan on Thursday ruled out joining the Abraham Accords, reaffirming that its longstanding stance on the Palestinian issue remains unchanged.
Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi, addressing the weekly media briefing in Islamabad, dismissed reports suggesting that Pakistan’s participation in the Board of Peace is linked to the Abraham Accords, calling such claims a “misconception.”
“Joining the Board of Peace has no connection with the Abraham Accords and does not represent any deviation from Pakistan’s principled position on Palestine,” Andrabi said.
He explained that Pakistan’s decision to join the Board of Peace was taken collectively by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs after consultations with all relevant stakeholders and completion of required procedural steps.

According to the spokesperson, Pakistan’s primary objective in joining the initiative is to help consolidate and sustain the ceasefire in Gaza, support post-conflict reconstruction, and promote a just and lasting peace based on the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination.
Andrabi noted that Pakistan is not alone in the initiative, adding that Saudi Arabia, Turkiye, Egypt, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, and Qatar are also part of the Board of Peace.
Responding to a question about the US travel advisory for its citizens visiting Pakistan, Andrabi clarified that the advisory is “not a downgrade but an update.”

He said the revised advisory has removed certain earlier security concerns, making travel to Pakistan easier for US citizens. Pakistan, he added, remains a safe and welcoming country for international travellers, with the government taking steps to ensure tourist safety and convenience.
He further stated that Pakistan and the United States remain in contact through diplomatic channels to facilitate travel and people-to-people exchanges.
