Islamabad (TDI): Pakistan and Lithuania have expressed a strong desire to enhance bilateral cooperation in the fields of education, innovation and parliamentary engagement, as lawmakers and diplomats from both sides met at the Parliament House on Friday.
During the meeting between Dr. Shahida Rehmani, MNA and Convener of the Pakistan–Lithuania Parliamentary Friendship Group (PFG) and the Honorary Consul General of Lithuania in Pakistan, both parties discussed ways to strengthen academic linkages, promote student exchange programs and foster people-to-people contacts.
Dr. Rehmani welcomed the Honorary Consul General and lauded Lithuania’s forward-looking policies, especially in the sectors of gender inclusion and academic development.
She expressed confidence that such engagements would contribute to deepening mutual understanding and fostering long-term collaboration between the two nations.
The Honorary Consul General highlighted Lithuania’s major advancements in biotechnology, fintech, and nanotechnology, along with its high priority to the higher education and innovation.
He underscored Lithuania’s high global ranking in the graduate-to-population ratio and expressed keen interest in establishing academic and professional linkages with Pakistan.

He also noted the significant growth of Lithuania’s information technology sector and emphasized opportunities for Pakistani professionals to benefit from Lithuania’s expertise.
Both sides reaffirmed the importance of strengthening people-to-people contacts, promoting student exchange programs, and encouraging institutional collaboration between academic and research institutions of the two countries.

The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and exploring structured mechanisms to support sustained collaboration in mutually beneficial areas.
