Islamabad (TDI): Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Cheema on Wednesday reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to enhancing trade and economic cooperation with Kyrgyzstan during a bilateral meeting with Daniiar Amangeldiev, Minister of Finance of the Kyrgyz Republic.
The Kyrgyz delegation was in Islamabad for the 23rd Council of Heads of Government meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
Minister Cheema lauded the enduring friendship between Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan and appreciated the Kyrgyz delegation’s participation in the SCO summit.
He acknowledged the current trade volume between the two countries, valued at USD 8.63 million, with Pakistan’s exports to Kyrgyzstan at USD 3.33 million and imports at USD 5.3 million for the fiscal year 2022-23.

He emphasized the need to increase these figures and address the trade imbalance.
Cheema highlighted the achievements of the 4th session of the Pak-Kyrgyz Inter-Governmental Commission (IGC), held in November 2023, and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to implementing the agreements reached during that meeting.
Discussions between the two ministers covered a wide range of sectors for mutual cooperation, including trade, agriculture, energy, mining, digital development, tourism, health, banking, and education.
The minister also stressed the importance of convening Joint Working Groups (JWGs) to promote collaboration in key sectors, particularly agriculture and trade.

He expressed eagerness to host the upcoming 5th session of the IGC in Islamabad and reiterated Pakistan’s dedication to strengthening ties through this mechanism.
Additionally, both sides discussed the finalization of the ‘Transit Trade Agreement’ and related Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) for cooperation in agriculture and trade.
The meeting marked a significant step forward in enhancing economic ties between Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan, reflecting both countries’ shared commitment to collaboration and mutual growth.
