Floods in Pakistan

A third of Pakistan has been swamped by monsoon rains. These rains have killed at least 1,190 people since June and caused devastating floods that have destroyed or severely damaged over a million homes.

Furthermore, since last week, the number of destroyed homes has risen to nearly 436,000, with the worst-affected provinces being Sindh, Baluchistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. There are now 80 districts across five provinces that the Pakistani government has labeled as calamity stricken.

Moreover, in the past week, 1,600 kilometers of roads in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have been damaged or destroyed. Along portions of the Indus River, particularly near Taunsa in Punjab as well as Kotri in Sindh, there are still significant flood threats.

Adding to that, due to a lack of boats, 600 villages in the Dadu area were swamped, leaving many residents stranded. They also struggle with a lack of food and water.

Moving ahead, due to the worsening flood situation, Murtaza Shah, the Deputy Commissioner of Dadu, advised the inhabitants of the Dadu district districts to leave and find safer locations.

Urgent relief assistance by KRCS

Pakistan received essential relief supplies from the Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) to aid it in coping with the recent floods.

Along these lines, after speaking with Malik Farooq, Pakistan’s ambassador to Kuwait, and Secretary General of KRCS, Maha al-Barjas emphasized Kuwait’s support for Pakistan’s government. The emphasis was also put upon the people as a result of adverse weather circumstances.

According to her, society offers all necessary health, humanitarian, and relief assistance to displaced people. This is in order to assist the people in getting through the challenging time brought on by floods.

Additionally, the society’s field team secures the safety of the displaced persons and provides logistic and medical needs. This humanitarian support provides the affectees with a bunch of non-food items that are needed by the dislocated individuals.
