Pakistan, Iran Vow Joint Efforts for Regional Peace

Tehran (TDI): Pakistan and Iran on Monday renewed their commitment to permanent peace in South Asia, underlining that friendly ties with neighboring nations formed a core part of both countries’ foreign policy.

The commitment was reaffirmed during Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s meeting with Iranian President Dr Masoud Pezeshkian at a reception held at Tehran’s Sa’dabad Palace.

Both leaders resolved to strengthen collaboration to increase bilateral trade and investment and work jointly to maintain peace and security in the region.

Prime Minister Shehbaz said Pakistan emerged victorious from the military standoff with India due to the “brave actions of our brave armed forces, strongly backed by the public of Pakistan”.

He added that Pakistan wanted peace and will work for peace in the region through talks on the table and resolve the outstanding issues, including the Kashmir problem, according to the UNSC resolutions, which were acknowledged even by the Indian Lok Sabha when Nehru was the prime minister of India.”

He stated that Pakistan is ready to talk for the sake of peace on different matters, including water, trade and counterterrorism, New Delhi India is serious.

However, he emphasized that if India continued its aggressive stance, Pakistan would firmly defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The prime minister described his meeting with President Pezeshkian as productive and comprehensive, addressing all key areas of mutual interest and cooperation.

He also expressed gratitude to the Iranian president for his recent phone call and concern over the evolving regional situation.

“I sincerely appreciate your brotherly sentiments for the people of Pakistan and your strong desire to see this crisis de-escalate rather than intensify,” PM Shehbaz told President Pezeshkian.

The Iranian president emphasized that Pakistan and Iran shared a common stance on important regional and global issues on different platforms, including the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

President Pezeshkian emphasized the need for Pakistan and Iran to work together in securing their shared border against the threat posed by terrorists and criminal groups.
