Pakistan Halts Trade, Bans Indian Flights Amid Rising Tensions

Islamabad (TDI): Pakistan has restricted its airspace to all Indian Airlines. Furthermore, all direct and indirect trade activities with India have been suspended with immediate effect.

The Government of Pakistan has expressed serious concern over India’s unilateral measures, which include revoking all visas for Pakistani nationals, reducing diplomatic staff, suspending trade routes, and halting the Indus Waters Treaty—an international agreement vital to both countries.

In response, Pakistan has taken reciprocal steps, including closing its airspace to Indian-operated airlines and suspending bilateral trade.

The attack in Indian Occupied Kashmir, which resulted in the loss of 26 civilian lives including tourist, has been condemned by Pakistan in the strongest terms.

Yet air has become tense between the two neighbors, following the attack.

Pakistani officials noted that the group claiming responsibility was previously unknown and rejected India’s accusations as “unsubstantiated and politically motivated.”

Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that no credible evidence has been shared to establish any cross-border involvement.

During a press conference, the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Senator Ishaq Dar, firmly stated that Pakistan is fully prepared to defend its sovereignty. He warned that any attempt to stage a false flag operation against Pakistan will be met with strong and decisive retaliation.

“This time the response will be more even tougher and mire forceful than before”, he added.

Foreign Minister Dar further stated that Pakistan seeks de-escalation but reserves the right to defend its national interests.

The National Security Committee (NSC) of Pakistan convened an emergency session, reiterating that while Pakistan remains committed to peace and dialogue, any violation of its sovereignty would receive a proportionate and determined response.

Islamabad has also raised concerns about India’s suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, an agreement brokered by the World Bank in 1960. Any attempt to alter or block water flow would be viewed as a violation of international law, as the Treaty contains a framework where no party can take unilateral action.

Officials warned that such actions would have serious implications for regional stability and could be interpreted as an act of aggression.

Pakistan’s leadership has called on the international community to play an active role in preventing further escalation.

Emphasizing its longstanding policy of peaceful coexistence, Pakistan has reiterated that sustained peace in South Asia requires a commitment to justice, mutual respect, and the resolution of longstanding disputes through dialogue and international cooperation.
