Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari is meeting with State Councilor Wang Yi

Tashkent, 29 July 2022 (TDI): Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari met the State Councilor and Foreign Minister of China Wang Yi. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

The Foreign Ministers reviewed the progress in bilateral relations and discussed regional and international issues of mutual interest.

Pakistan’s Foreign Minister also reaffirmed the country’s commitment to the purposes and principles of the SCO and the ‘Shanghai Spirit.

He added that Pakistan and China had complete convergence on fully leveraging SCO as an important regional platform for development and connectivity.

Both sides reaffirmed their strong support for each other’s core interests and major concerns. Pakistan and China are committed to deepening strategic communication including at the highest political level and practical cooperation.

Remarks on bilateral engagements 

The Foreign Minister expressed satisfaction at the frequent high-level interactions between the two sides which was a hallmark of the bilateral relations.

Moreover, he underscored that his third meeting with State Councilor Wang Yi in as many months reflected the importance attached by both sides to maintaining strategic communication.

He highlighted Pakistan’s efforts to deepen the Pakistan-China Strategic Cooperative Partnership and advance economic engagement for mutual benefit.

Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari also underscored that CPEC’s development had reached a new phase. This development emphasizes on high-quality development of industry, agriculture, IT, and science and technology. It also ensures tangible socio-economic benefits for the people.

The two sides further discussed the latest developments in Afghanistan. The two sides agreed that peace and stability in Afghanistan are vital for regional development and prosperity.

Both sides significantly agreed that only a peaceful, stable and connected Afghanistan could act as a fulcrum for enhanced regional trade and connectivity.

The two foreign ministers agreed to maintain close coordination.

Recently, Foreign Minister Bilawal paid a visit to China and called on the Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. Both discussed issues of core interests and major concerns.
