Islamabad (TDI): Pakistan and Ethiopia have agreed to enhance bilateral collaboration aimed at developing a skilled workforce to support the socioeconomic progress of both nations.
The understanding was reached during a meeting between Dr. Jemal Beker Abdula, Special Envoy and Ambassador Extraordinary of Ethiopia, and Salik Hussain, Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development.
​​The Ambassador briefed the Federal Minister about Ethiopia’s homegrown economic reforms, which are aimed at fostering macroeconomic stability, encouraging private sector investment, enhancing domestic production, and improving the government’s capacity to deliver quality services.
​He noted that modern skills such as coding, artificial intelligence (AI), blockchain, and computing are being inculcated among the youth to advance their productivity. The Ambassador proposed joint initiatives between the two countries to upskill their youth.

​Ambassador Dr. Jemal also highlighted the critical role the Ethiopian diaspora plays in the country’s economic development, particularly through the Government of Ethiopia’s “Back to Origins” initiative which encourages second-generation Ethiopian diaspora to return to Ethiopia to connect with their heritage, culture, and history, and contribute to the country’s future.

​The Federal Minister emphasized that Pakistan attaches great importance to Ethiopia and looks forward to strengthening its bilateral cooperation on skill development.
He lauded the visionary leadership that is transforming Ethiopia under Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed.
The Federal Minister also appreciated the Ambassador for his remarkable efforts in laying a strong foundation for Ethio-Pakistan bilateral relations.
