Islamabad (TDI): Pakistan and Ethiopia on Tuesday agreed to promote parliamentary diplomacy for further enhancing bilateral, regional and multilateral cooperation in diverse areas of economy, trade, investment, aviation, climate change, peace and security, culture and tourism.
To this end, a comprehensive discussion was held during a meeting between Dr. Jemal Beker Abdula, Special Envoy and Ambassador Extraordinary of Ethiopia to Pakistan, and the Chairman of Senate Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani.
The two sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthen parliamentary ties, particularly by exchanging high level delegations, and establishing a Pakistan-Ethiopia Parliamentary Friendship Group in the Senate of Pakistan.
On the occasion, the envoy briefed the Senate Chairman about the initiatives taken by Ethiopia for regional integration, and also its leading role in ensuring peace and security in the Horn of Africa through joint counter-terrorism initiatives with neighboring nations.
He said that the extraordinary business, trade and investment opportunities generated in Ethiopia by the two phases of home-grown economic reforms that have also addressed macroeconomic imbalances, increased the country’s productivity and attracted the foreign direct investment.
The envoy noted the strengthening bilateral collaboration in different areas such as finance, trade, culture, aviation, science and technology, climate change, culture and tourism, particularly after the opening the Ethiopian Mission in Islamabad, launching of the Ethiopian Airlines operations in Karachi and exchange of business and trade delegations between the two nations.
He invited the Chairman Senate to a Single Country Exhibition being hosted by the Government of Ethiopia, and arranged by the Government of Pakistan in Addis Ababa on May 2025.

The Chairman Senate said he is proud of Pakistan’s ties with Ethiopia which has been strengthening tremendously with the opening of the Ethiopian Embassy in Islamabad.
He said Pakistan attached great significance to Ethiopia and looks forward to further enhance its bilateral, regional and multilateral collaboration with Addis Ababa.

The Chairman Senate appreciated the visionary leadership of Dr. Abiy Ahmed, Prime Minister of Ethiopia, who has completely transformed the status of the country at regional and international levels by ensuring fast track socio-economic development.
