United Nations (TDI): Pakistan has once again secured a seat on the United Nations Human Rights Council (HRC), winning by a large margin for a three-year term beginning in 2026.
This marks the sixth time the country has been elected to the 47-member body since its creation in 2006.
The Geneva-based Council is tasked with promoting and protecting human rights globally. Members are chosen through a secret ballot by the UN General Assembly, with each candidate requiring at least 97 votes out of 193 to be elected.
In the election held Monday, all five regional groups presented clean slates, meaning the number of candidates matched the number of available seats.
