Pakistan to Consider Diplomatic Ties with Armenia

Islamabad (TDI): Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Friday said Pakistan is open to considering the establishment of diplomatic relations with Armenia, a move that would mark a significant policy shift.

“Foreign Minister of Armenia, Ararat Mirzoyan, and I held a cordial phone conversation today and agreed to consider establishing diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Armenia,” Dar announced on social media platform X.

Armenia’s Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan confirmed the development in a separate post, noting, “Had an important call with DPM & FM Ishaq Dar today. Following recent developments & in line with the vision of cooperative engagement both bilaterally & on multilateral platforms, we discussed establishment of diplomatic relations between Armenia & Pakistan.”

Pakistan and Armenia have never had formal diplomatic ties, largely due to Islamabad’s long-standing support for Azerbaijan in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

The Press Information Department underscored that this dynamic has defined the relationship between the two states for decades.
