United Nations (TDI): Pakistan reaffirmed its support for international initiatives aimed at ending the Russia-Ukraine war, with Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatemi telling the UN Security Council on Tuesday that “no dispute can be settled by the use of force.”
“The conflict has dragged on for more than three and a half years and has taken a heavy toll on innocent lives,” Fatemi said.
He noted that Pakistan has consistently backed relevant Security Council resolutions and will continue to support measures that can help bring peace.
Warning that the war has already triggered a major humanitarian crisis, Fatemi stressed its global repercussions. “It is fuelling food and energy shortages and pushing up global inflation,” he said, urging both Moscow and Kyiv to exercise patience and seek a negotiated path forward.

“Pakistan stands ready to support any genuine move that can bring this conflict to an end,” he added.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres, in his remarks to the Council, cautioned against losing the “fragile diplomatic momentum” built around possible mediation efforts.
While addressing ambassadors in consecutive meetings, he also tied the discussions to other conflicts, insisting that any post-war arrangements, including for Gaza, must be anchored in international law and reject all forms of forced displacement.
