On the second day of the Tent Pegging World Cup in George, South Africa, Pakistan earned two more medals.

George, 28 August 2023 (TDI): On the second day of the Tent Pegging World Cup in George, South Africa, Pakistan earned two more medals. Irfan Mehmood, Nasir Abbas, Wajahatullah, and Tassawur Abbas were part of the Pakistan team.

Securing the second spot in the overall championship, Team Pakistan clinched the World Cup Silver.

The third day of the World Cup witnessed riders from nine diverse countries engaging in six runs, skillfully demonstrating their expertise in Ring and Peg, Lemon and Peg, as well as Relays of Sword and Lance events.

The Ring and Peg event was included in the first section of the day.

Riders were expected to pass through a weapon without making contact, retrieve a ring, and then pierce the weapon into a peg to take it away in this task.

Wajahatullah and Tassawur Abbas performed admirably in this round, earning the most points.

Irfan Mehmood received two points, whereas Nasir Abbas, who had done admirably on the first day, did not receive his peg.

As a result, the Lemon and Peg category required riders to slice or stab a lemon before aiming for the peg.

Tassawur Abbas was Pakistan’s highest performer, with a total of 36 points.

Wajahatullah and Irfan each received 30 points for successfully slicing the lemon but missing their pegs, while Nasir Abbas received 24 points.

Wajahatullah of Pakistan missed the lance relay during the relays.

However, in the final Sword Relay run, all of the riders successfully penetrated and carried the target, sealing the team’s win.

Pakistani spectators and team members erupted in cries of “Pakistan Zindabad” after the Sword Relay ended.

The Pakistan team secured a total of 294 points on the given day to clinch the Gold medal. Following closely were Saudi Arabia with 289 points and India with 276.5 points.

Tassawur Abbas stood out as the day’s outstanding rider, earning an individual gold medal for his immaculate performance, earning 100% of the available points.

Pakistan’s outstanding performance on the second day propelled them from third to second place in the overall championship ran.

This outstanding performance earned them the Silver Medal in the Tent Pegging World Cup, with a total of 570 points. Saudi Arabia clinched the trophy with 581.5 points, while India secured the third position with 548.5 points.
