New York (TDI): The Foreign Ministers of Pakistan and China discussed bilateral ties in New York. The Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, met with the Member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party (CPC) and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Wang Yi, on the sidelines of the Ministerial Meeting of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).
During the meeting, the Pakistan-China Foreign Ministers discussed bilateral ties between the two countries. They shared satisfaction over their relations’ trajectory and discussed key regional and global issues. The foreign minister, Ishaq Dar, expressed gratification with improving bilateral ties and stated that maintaining good relations with China is a key component of Pakistan’s foreign policy.
He also reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for China on its core issues and stated that Pakistan-China friendship is significant for regional peace and stability. He thanked China for supporting Pakistan’s integrity and territorial sovereignty.
The Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, stated that Pakistan holds a special significance in the foreign policy of China. He also said that China will continue to support Pakistan on its key issues as well as its socio-economic development.
He further underlined that China would keep strengthening its unbreakable connections with Pakistan to protect the two nations’ shared interests.
Both foreign ministers also discussed the steps required for the development and speedy implementation of phase two of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and shared the desire to further expand cooperation on the CPEC.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan, Pakistan and China “reaffirmed the ironclad Pakistan-China friendship, discussed bilateral ties, CPEC, and key global and regional issues. Pakistan-China cooperation remains vital for regional peace, stability & prosperity.”

While addressing the International Conference on “Regional Connectivity and Pakistan: Emerging Opportunities,” the President of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari, said that the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and Gwadar Port would play a significant role in promoting regional trade and prosperity.

Earlier, Bilawal Bhutto, the leader of the Pakistan Peoples Party, also highlighted Pakistan’s historical role in fostering a dialogue between China and the United States. He said that amid the growing regional and global tensions, Pakistan can serve as a “bridge-builder for China and the United States.”
He said that if you want to put us in a camp, we would like to see ourselves as “bridge builders.”

Recently, Pakistan and China signed six agreements to promote bilateral trade and cooperation. During the ceremony, Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Shahbaz Sharif, expressed his full willingness to contribute to Chinese President Xi Jinping’s vision of a shared destiny of progress and prosperity.
