Pakistan, China Discuss UNSC Cooperation

Beijing (TDI): Ambassador of Pakistan to China, Khalil Hashmi, met with Shen Bo, Director General of the Department of International Organizations and Conferences at China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to discuss multilateral cooperation and Pakistan’s role at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).

During the meeting, the Ambassador congratulated Director General Shen on the successful high-level UNSC session held last month under the chairmanship of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

He acknowledged China’s leadership in advancing key global discussions and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to multilateral diplomacy.

Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, had attended the session and contributed to the discussions.

Ambassador Hashmi briefed Director General Shen on Pakistan’s priorities during its current UNSC term, highlighting its focus on peace and security, sustainable development, and strengthening multilateral institutions.

The two sides reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing coordination on global issues and continuing close cooperation within the United Nations framework.

Pakistan and China have maintained a longstanding and robust partnership in multilateral diplomacy, particularly at the United Nations, where both countries have historically supported each other on key global issues.

This cooperation dates back to Pakistan’s early recognition of the People’s Republic of China in 1950 and China’s consistent backing of Pakistan on matters related to regional stability and international governance.

At the UNSC, China has frequently defended Pakistan’s positions on issues such as Kashmir, counterterrorism measures, and regional peace initiatives, while Pakistan has supported China’s stance on sovereignty-related matters, including Taiwan and Xinjiang.

Over the decades, both nations have worked closely in multilateral forums, advocating for global economic reforms, non-interference in sovereign affairs, and the protection of developing countries’ interests in international financial and security institutions.
