Pakistan, Bahrain Vow to Strengthen Parliamentary Cooperation

Manama (TDI): National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa of Bahrain on Tuesday underlined the spirit of cordiality and brotherhood that has long defined relations between Pakistan and Bahrain, during their meeting at Al-Safriya Palace.

Speaker Sadiq conveyed warm greetings on behalf of President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, extending Pakistan’s best wishes for the continued prosperity and development of Bahrain. King Hamad warmly reciprocated the sentiments, offering prayers for the progress and well-being of the Pakistani people.

Both leaders engaged in a wide-ranging discussion on regional and international issues of common concern, emphasizing the importance of peace, stability, and cooperation. Speaker Sadiq reiterated Pakistan’s principled stance on the peaceful resolution of Palestine and Kashmir, condemning the ongoing atrocities in both regions.

King Hamad congratulated Pakistan on its recent Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement with Saudi Arabia, describing it as a milestone achievement that would bolster collective regional security. He praised Pakistan as a pivotal Muslim nation and a key military power in the Islamic world. In response, Speaker Sadiq reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to defending the shared values and aspirations of the Muslim Ummah.

The two leaders also reviewed bilateral ties, agreeing to expand cooperation in parliamentary, economic, and cultural spheres. Speaker Sadiq commended the Bahrain Parliament for creating a dedicated section on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) on its official website, calling it a forward-looking step toward inclusive progress. He assured Bahrain of Pakistan’s full support in pursuing its sustainable development objectives.

King Hamad expressed heartfelt condolences over the devastation caused by recent floods in Pakistan, pledging Bahrain’s solidarity and support for relief and rehabilitation efforts. Speaker Sadiq, in turn, expressed gratitude for Bahrain’s compassion, terming it a reflection of the deep brotherly bonds between the two nations.

The Speaker was accompanied by a parliamentary delegation including Zulfiqar Bhind, Musarrat Rafique Mahesar, Malik Shakir Bashir Awan, Sardar Shamsher Ali Khan Mazari, Abdul Aleem Khan, Muhammad Usman Badini, Hassan Sabir, Khursheed Ahmed Junejo, and Pullain Baloch.
