Islamabad, 31 August 2023 (TDI): In a recent high-level meeting, Pakistan and Iran have agreed to enhance bilateral cooperation across various sectors, including the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), energy, and the economy.
The meeting was held between the Caretaker Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives, Sami Saeed, and the newly appointed Iranian Ambassador to Pakistan, Reza Amiri-Moghaddam, in Islamabad.
The discussions covered many topics, including bilateral trade, CPEC, energy security needs, and economic sectors. Both sides emphasized the importance of strengthening the long-standing friendship between Pakistan and Iran and expressed a mutual desire to boost trade and connectivity.
Ambassador Amiri-Moghaddam offered cooperation in the energy sector to address Pakistan’s energy security needs, which was welcomed by Minister Saeed.
Additionally, the meeting explored ways to enhance trade through the eastern and western corridors. Minister Saeed commended the existing border markets between Pakistan and Iran and suggested exploring additional areas of mutual interest and collaboration. He also proposed evolving a mechanism to facilitate smoother trade transactions.
Furthermore, the meeting concluded positively, highlighting energy collaboration as a significant stride towards increased trade, connectivity, and cooperation between Pakistan and Iran. Both sides were committed to shared goals and a mutual interest in boosting bilateral trade volume.

Just last month, the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Pakistan, Mr. Reza Amiri Moghaddam, met with the Finance Minister, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, at the Finance Division today. The Finance Minister congratulated the Ambassador on his new role in Pakistan.
During the meeting, they discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations in several areas, including trade and economics, intending to realize the potential trade volume between the two countries through barter trade and opening additional border markets. The Finance Minister expressed his support and cooperation to the Ambassador.
