Pakistan and China will sign onion export regulatory agreement


Islamabad/Beijing, 18 November 2021 (TDI): Pakistan and China will sign a regulatory agreement for the export of onion from Pakistan.

This protocol is an important step towards building cooperation between Pakistan and China on the exports of agricultural goods from Pakistan. The protocol will ensure safe entry of onion from Pakistan to China especially to prevent any pests and protect the plant health.

This protocol will be signed keeping in view the relevant principles of the Agreement on the Implementation of Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures (SPS Agreement) of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), the General Administration of Custom of the People’s Republic of China, Ministry of National Food Security and Research of Pakistan.

The protocol will help companies interested to export onions from Pakistan to China need to make the necessary measures and follow this Protocol. All processing companies shall be registered and recommended by DPP after approval through an audit for further registration with GACC.

The registration information shall contain the name and unique identification code to ensure traceability. Earlier in October this year, Pakistan and China agreed to sign a memorandum of understanding to enhance the export of onion to China and to introduce revolutionary Chinese Juncao Technology in Pakistan.

Ambassador Nong Rong met with Minister for National Food Security and Research Syed Fakhar Imam. In the meeting, both sides agreed to work together in collaboration in agriculture.

It is important to note that the second phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor is focusing on, among others, agriculture collaboration. During the meeting Ambassador also apprised about the Juncao technology and how this will help generate income in 7-10 days.

The close collaboration with government to government, business to business, and research to research will help speed the process of cooperation in Agriculture. Cooperation with China will help Pakistan and its agro-based economy Pakistan.

There is a huge potential between Pakistan and China with technology collaboration and sharing of best practices, the productivity in Pakistan will be increased to an international level.
