ISLAMABAD, (TDI): The Country Director of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) Emma Fan called on Pakistan Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal ad discussed ongoing and upcoming ADB-supported development projects.
During the meeting held on Monday, the Minister emphasized that the recently finalized five-year development plan aligns with the Prime Minister’s broader agenda.
He highlighted the government’s strategic focus on key sectors such as information technology, agriculture, and social development, aiming to promote inclusive growth and uplift marginalized communities.
The Minister also stressed the importance of modernizing infrastructure, particularly roads, to improve connectivity within the country and with regional partners, especially Central Asia. He expressed appreciation for ADB’s continued support, noting that upgrades to road infrastructure, including the Taftan section, are vital for enhancing trade and regional integration.

Additionally, he called for increased investments in health and education, recognizing these sectors as essential for human development. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to expanding access to quality healthcare and education to build a healthier, more educated workforce.

Addressing Pakistan’s water management challenges, the Minister highlighted the urgent need to increase water storage capacity through major projects like the Bhasha Dam to ensure food security and sustainable agricultural growth.
