Tashkent (TDI): Pakistan and Uzbekistan have opened new avenues for collaboration in the mining and minerals sector as the former’s Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Revenue, Haroon Akhtar Khan, met with senior officials at the Ministry of Mining, Industry and Geology of Uzbekistan during his official visit to Tashkent.

The visit is part of Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to implement key decisions made during Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s recent trip to Uzbekistan.

During the meeting, both sides expressed keen interest in exploring joint ventures and technological cooperation in mineral exploration, extraction, and processing.

Given Pakistan’s vast mineral reserves including coal, copper, gold, and rare earth elements, and Uzbekistan’s established expertise and infrastructure in mineral mining, the two countries identified synergies for partnership.

Discussions centered on tapping into each country’s comparative advantages to build a mutually beneficial framework for sustainable mineral development.

To ensure continuous progress, both sides agreed to initiate regular ministerial-level engagements. These meetings will serve as a platform for sharing technical knowledge, attracting investment, and promoting innovation in mining practices.

In addition to his engagement with the mining ministry, SAPM Haroon Akhtar Khan visited the Techno Park in Tashkent earlier in the day. There, he was briefed on Uzbekistan’s production capabilities in consumer electronics and energy-efficient appliances.

He took particular interest in the joint manufacturing of modern gas and electricity meters as well as solar water heaters, highlighting Pakistan’s growing demand for sustainable and energy-efficient technologies.

The visit reflects Pakistan’s broader strategy to diversify its industrial partnerships in Central Asia and enhance cooperation beyond traditional sectors.

Energy, technology, and natural resources have emerged as key pillars in the evolving Pakistan-Uzbekistan economic relationship.
