Pakistan, UK to Link Urban Institutions for Better Cooperation

London (TDI): Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Commerce, Jam Kamal Khan, had a meeting with Lord Wajid Khan, UK’s Minister of Housing, Communication, and Local Government, while he is on an official visit to the country.

Pakistan’s High Commissioner to the UK, Dr. Mohammad Faisal, was also present in the meeting. Discussions centered on leveraging the strong Pakistan-origin diaspora in the UK, comprising approximately 1.7 million people, as a bridge to strengthen economic and social linkages.

Both dignitaries explored avenues for technical collaboration in urban development, affordable housing, and smart cities; building on the UK’s expertise in local government and urban planning.

They agreed that linking Pakistani urban institutions with UK councils could pave way for knowledge sharing and pilot programs, benefiting communities in both countries.

Minister Khan invited UK’s support for municipal-level partnerships, while also extended an invitation to Lord Khan to visit Pakistan, so he can witness firsthand the emerging opportunities for bilateral cooperation in urban management and planning.

The Commerce Minister also informed Lord Khan about the establishment of Pakistan–UK Business Advisory Council, to channel diaspora expertise and networks toward enhancing trade, investment, and business linkages.
