Jakarta (TDI): Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto’s bid to serve as a mediator in the ongoing conflict involving Iran has received backing from Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates, according to a senior Indonesian official.
Nusron Wahid, Indonesia’s agrarian affairs minister, confirmed Thursday that Prabowo’s offer to mediate has support, following a meeting between the president and local Islamic leaders.
Nusron said that the steps taken by the President have received support from several Middle Eastern and other Muslim-majority nations, specifically naming Pakistan and the UAE.
The offer comes in the wake of joint US-Israeli strikes on Iran. Indonesia, the world’s largest Muslim nation, responded by offering to facilitate dialogue.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that President Prabowo was willing to travel to Tehran to conduct mediation. Indonesia did not condemn the strikes outright, instead expressed deep regret over the breakdown of diplomacy and called for restraint from all sides.

Indonesia’s Foreign Minister Sugiono spoke by phone with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi, conveying Jakarta’s readiness to play a constructive role in advancing peace, including offering to facilitate dialogue or mediation.
Iran’s response has not been dismissive. Tehran’s ambassador in Jakarta acknowledged appreciation for Indonesia’s good intentions, while noting that no concrete steps have yet been taken.
He confirmed that communication between countries remain possible, though he declined to say whether mediation could produce results in the current circumstances.
Prabowo’s mediation push reflects his broader foreign policy approach since taking office in October 2024. Under his leadership, Indonesia has furthered ties with a number of states, including the US, China, India, Pakistan, Russia, and the Gulf states.
Whether Jakarta’s offer will result in any peace process remains to be seen. For now, support from Pakistan and the UAE strengthens its position to be a potential mediator.
