Pakistan Takes Its Perspective to Influential Capitals of the World

Islamabad (TDI): Two separate delegations from Pakistan, including former foreign ministers, state secretaries, and high-level officials are setting off to important and influential capitals of the world, to project Pakistan’s perspective viz a viz conflict with India.

The risk of escalation between the two nuclear armed neighbors persists, as India is illegitimately planning to hold Pakistan’s downstream waters, guaranteed by the Indus Waters Treaty of 1960.

As directed by the Prime Minister, who himself was on a tour of friendly countries; Turkiye, Iran, Azerbaijan, and Tajikistan recently, one of the two delegations will head toward New York, Washington D.C., London, and Brussels.

The other delegation, led by Special Assistant to the PM, Tariq Fatemi, will turn to Moscow where SAPM “is scheduled to hold meetings with senior Russian officials and also engage with media and think tanks.”

As for the first delegation, Chairman People’s Party and former Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto, will lead it. Other significant delegates include:

  • Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, Dr. Musadik Malik
  • Chairperson, Senate Standing Committee on Climate Change and Environmental Coordination and former Minister for Information and Climate Change, Senator Sherry Rehman
  • Chairperson, National Assembly Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and former Foreign Minister, Hina Rabbani Khar
  • Former Minister for Commerce, Defense and Foreign Affairs, Engineer Khurram Dastgir Khan

“The delegations will highlight Pakistan’s responsible and restrained conduct – seeking peace with responsibility – in the face of India’s reckless and belligerent actions in violation of international law,” read a statement by the Foreign Office.

It further read, “The delegations will underscore the imperative for the international community to play its due role in promoting a lasting peace in South Asia.”

“The need for immediate resumption of the normal functioning of the Indus Waters Treaty will also be a key theme of the delegations’ outreach,” the statement added.

The May 10 ceasefire between Pakistan and India brought an end to active and direct military confrontation but the air between the two countries still remains fragile, while hostile statements and remarks from Indian side show no sign of receding.
