Islamabad, 04 March 2022 (TDI): The joint military exercise “Al – Samsam – 8” was conducted between the Royal Saudi Land Forces (RSLF) and the Pakistan Army in National Counter Terrorism Training Centre Pabbi Pakistan. The exercise started on the 20th of February and concluded on the 3rd of March after the span of two weeks.

During these two weeks of exercise, several activities were carried out by the participating forces in which practices and special training in various areas were included i.e. Exercises for cordoning cities, liberating hostages, simulating irregular war operations, fieldcraft & tactics, combat, and search, combat patrolling, and counter-improvised explosive device drills etc.

The exercise was the divine part of Saudi Arabia and Pakistan’s incessant military cooperation. And the purpose of conducting it was to share information, experience, and concepts that would have a favorable impact on combat effectiveness in a number of diverse circumstances.

According to the office of Inter-Services Public Relation Pakistan, Commander Mangla Corps Lieutenant General Shaheen Mazher Mahmood, and Major General Abdullah Eid Al Otaibi of Royal Saudi Land Forces attended the ceremony as chief guests. Ambassador of KSA to Pakistan Nawaf Saeed Al Maliky also has attended the fabulous ceremony.

The Al – Samsaam – 8 exercises provided an opportunity to benchmark respective operational practices and share each other’s experiences.

These exercises are being conducted on a biennial basis since 2004. In December 2021, the Royal Saudi Land Forces (RSLF) and the Pakistani Army conducted a similar sort of exercise called ‘Al Kaseh 3.’

In earlier 2021, Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF) combat aircraft and crew members arrived in Pakistan’s Mushaf Air Base to participate in the Air Excellence Center Exercise. Said aerial sortie was conducted alongside their US counterparts.

The exercise’s name “Al – Smasaam” is an Arabic word, which means “Sword and Arrow”. It is associated with the name of the companion of Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon Him) who fought with bravery against the infidels of Makkah. Al – Samsaam. Apropos to this joint military exercise, the meaning of “Al-Samsaam” denotes an ardent motif against the enemy of peace, humanity, Sovereignty, and Islam.
