Islamabad (TDI): On World Children’s Day 2025, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif underscored the country’s renewed commitment to safeguarding children’s rights, enhancing protection mechanisms, and improving schooling access across the country.

The day’s celebrations, themed “My Day, My Rights,” highligh the importance of recognizing and fulfilling the fundamental rights of children in Pakistan.

In a statement released by the Prime Minister’s Office, Sharif emphasized that children’s mental and physical development, education, protection, and overall upbringing are of critical importance.

He noted that the country’s future is closely linked to the well-being and development of its younger generation, stressing that quality education and training aligned with modern needs represent essential pillars of progress.

““The future of any state, country and humanity as a whole is linked to the bright future of its children as the new generation,” the statement quoted Shehbaz as saying.

Sharif also outlined the government’s intention to strengthen existing support systems by working with provincial authorities and international partners.

Key measures include the expansion of educational stipends, health-care services, and skills-development centers, all aimed at providing broader and more equitable opportunities for children across diverse regions.

The Prime Minister’s Office also drew attention to the scale of the challenge, citing recent education statistics showing that more than 25 million children remain out of school.

The report highlighted particularly high non-enrolment rates in Balochistan at 58 percent and Sindh at 47 percent, pointing to stark disparities in access to education that require urgent attention and targeted policy intervention.

Sharif acknowledged that while some progress has been made, more effective strategies are needed to reduce these gaps and protect vulnerable children.

He called for sustained international cooperation and reiterated that the future of any state is linked to the bright future of its children, emphasizing the need for global solidarity to support Pakistan’s efforts.
