Pakistani Envoy Connects with Students at British University, Dubai

Dubai (TDI): Ambassador Faisal Niaz Tirmizi, Pakistan’s envoy to the United Arab Emirates, visited the British University in Dubai (BUiD) today and addressed students and faculty during an interactive session focused on Pakistan-UAE relations.

The Ambassador was welcomed by Vice Chancellor Professor Abdullah Alshamsi and faculty members. In his lecture, Ambassador Tirmizi explored the historical context and evolving strategic relationship between Pakistan and the UAE, tracing diplomatic and cultural connections that span over seven decades.

He provided an overview of Pakistan’s historical heritage, highlighting ancient civilizations such as the Indus Valley and Gandhara. He also described Pakistan’s diverse geography, which includes some of the world’s tallest mountain peaks in the Himalayas, Karakoram, and Hindu Kush ranges.

Ambassador Tirmizi drew attention to Pakistan’s demographic profile, noting that 68 percent of the population is under the age of 30. He framed this as a critical factor for the country’s future trajectory in terms of innovation and economic development.

On bilateral ties, Ambassador Tirmizi reflected on the foundational relationship between the two countries, including Pakistan being the first nation to recognize the UAE in 1971.

He referred to late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan’s visit to Pakistan in 1966 as a significant milestone in the development of the longstanding partnership.

He pointed to the role of Pakistani professionals in contributing to the UAE’s early infrastructure and sectoral development, including in aviation, banking, and agriculture.

Currently, the bilateral trade volume exceeds USD 10 billion, and approximately 1.8 million Pakistani nationals reside in the UAE, forming one of the largest expatriate communities.

The Ambassador also referred to recent engagements between the leadership of both nations, including visits by Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and senior Emirati officials, which have led to new agreements aimed at expanding cooperation.

In closing, Ambassador Tirmizi encouraged students to broaden their knowledge through reading and travel. He extended an invitation to BUiD faculty and students to visit Pakistan to learn more about its culture, landscapes, and culinary traditions.

The visit concluded with an interactive Q&A session, allowing students to engage directly with the Ambassador on topics of mutual interest.
