Beijing (TDI): Pakistan’s envoy to China, Khalil Hashmi, has inaugurated the “Ambassador’s Kitchen” on the sidelines of the Euro-Asia Economic Forum 2025 in Xi’an.
The new initiative aims to highlight Pakistan’s diverse culinary traditions, encourage cultural exchange, and further deepen ties with China’s Shaanxi province.
In his remarks at the opening ceremony, Ambassador Hashmi spoke about the expanding cooperation between Pakistan and Shaanxi, recalling the momentum created by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s visit to the province in June 2024.
He described the kitchen as not just a dining space but a cultural platform where visitors can experience Pakistan’s warmth and hospitality.

Traditional products including mangoes, basmati rice, and pink Himalayan salt will also be introduced through the project.
The envoy noted that food has long served as a connector between civilizations, drawing a link between the ancient Silk Road and present-day exchanges.
He stressed that the initiative fits within Pakistan’s wider economic cooperation with China, particularly in the fields of agriculture, food processing, and trade.
The “Ambassador’s Kitchen” is expected to serve as a permanent showcase of Pakistani flavors for visitors to Xi’an, one of China’s most historic cities and a vital hub of the Belt and Road Initiative.

Diplomats, business leaders, and tourists are anticipated to visit the space, providing Pakistan with a valuable opportunity to present its culinary identity alongside its trade and investment potential.
Observers note that such soft diplomacy efforts can strengthen people-to-people connections, create new avenues of cooperation, and add cultural depth to Pakistan-China relations that already have a strong economic and strategic dimension.
