Pakistan, Afghanistan, UAE Gear Up for T20 Tri-Series

Sharjah (TDI): Pakistan, Afghanistan, and the United Arab Emirates will participate in a T20 International tri-series from August 29 to September 7 in Sharjah.

The tournament will be a double round-robin affair in which each of these three teams will face the others twice before the last two teams face off on September 7. All the games will start at 7 PM local time.

Tri-series gives the three countries a chance to lift their preparations for the highly awaited Asia Cup, which will start two days after the series ends.

For Pakistan, the series is an important build-up to their tournament match against Oman on September 12 and the big match against India on September 14.

Afghanistan, whose T20 schedule has been fairly limited in recent times, will be hoping to use the series to earn valuable match minutes and rediscover team flow ahead of their Asia Cup debut against Hong Kong on September 9.

The team will be hoping to rely on its spin talent and youth batting star power to make their mark. The UAE is hosting and will try to make the most of their home ground to gain familiarity with conditions and face more powerful opposition to try their best.

They have qualified for the Asia Cup based on a good performance in the 2024 ACC Premier Cup and have a rare opportunity in the tri-series to experience top-level cricket before their group stage fixtures.

The Asia Cup 2025, conducted between September 9 and September 28, will comprise eight teams split into two groups. The top two teams from each group will qualify for the Super 4, which will lead them into the final.

With its timing and competitive format, the regional championship is also being considered a crucial stepping stone to the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka.

With conditions in the UAE set to resemble those of the Asia Cup grounds, the tri-series should be central to determining strategies, key performers, and momentum building for all three teams.
