Vienna, 30 September 2022 (TDI): The Chairman of Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC), Dr. Raja Ali Raza Anwar met with the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Mariano Grossi at the IAEA headquarters in Vienna.

The officials discussed the nuclear power program of Pakistan. The IAEA Director General emphasized the use of nuclear instruments to combat climate change and achieve improved access to cancer care.

DG IAEA and Chairman PAEC agreed that collective action is needed for nuclear applications for peace & development.

Dr. Adil Raza Anwar is on an official visit to Austria. He is the Governor as well as the chairman of the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission. He addressed the delegates at the 66th General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

Pakistan has constructed many civil nuclear power plants. The Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission oversees these nuclear power plants in the country.

Pakistan is using nuclear technology to treat its cancer patients.

So far, six nuclear reactors are operating in Pakistan for the sake of energy production. The country is further enhancing its nuclear technology with the help of China.

The Programme of Action for Cancer Therapy (PACT)

Cancer is a leading cause of mortality globally. Their prevalence is increasing, owing mostly to an expansion in people’s lifespans and lifestyle modifications. Nuclear technology is crucial in cancer detection and therapy. The IAEA promotes nuclear methods in cancer research.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) founded the Programme of Action for Cancer Therapy (PACT) in 2004 with the objective of securing the incorporation of radiotherapy in thorough cancer control.

IAEA collaborates with other international organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO) to confront cancer.

Overall, the IAEA assists the Member States by providing people with training and education scientific advisory services, resources, tools, and equipment, and support for radioactive safety and quality assurance.
