Muscat, 30 December 2021 (TDI): In celebration of Oman and Sri Lanka’s 40th diplomatic anniversary, they jointly organized the first-ever Hockey Tournament.
In coordination with the hockey clubs, the event took place at the Sultan Qaboos Ground complex in Muscat. Under the leadership of the president of the Oman Hockey Association, hockey awaits a more exciting era to come.
Hockey Tournament Details
Director Marwan Al Jumah, along with the Sri Lankan Ambassador, enjoyed inaugurating such an impressive event on Tuesday. Thus, they celebrated the 40th anniversary of their state’s diplomatic relations with a match.
On the occasion of the commemoration, the board members of the Oman Hockey Association also attended the tournament. In addition to that, the director of the Sri Lanka Hockey Federation and Oman–Sri Lanka Hockey Committee, joined the celebration too.
40th anniversary of diplomatic relations
On the other hand, Oman and Sri Lanka established their relations in 1981. Since then, they have been working jointly on different projects, especially regarding Lankan ex-pats in Oman.
Therefore, this is not the first event that the two have held to celebrate their diplomatic relations. In fact, in February, the government of Oman and Sri Lanka launched a logo to symbolize their brotherly ties.
Moreover, in October, Sri Lanka and Oman hosted a cricket match that began ahead of the T20 World Cup. This event also commemorated the States´ 40th anniversary of bilateral relationships.
In addition to that, on December 21st, the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Oman organized a Gulf Tournament hand to hand with Ghala Golf Club in Muscat. During the event, they showcased Sri Lanka’s attractive places to visit in videos to promote tourism.
That is why, to the final presentation at the Hockey Tournament ceremony, Sri Lanka’s State Minister for Regional Cooperation and Undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth of Oman were gladly received.
Likewise, as guests of honor, they welcomed Ambassadors of India, Malaysia, Pakistan, other dignitaries who wanted to be present at a memorial anniversary between their peers.
