Muscat, 18 August 2022 (TDI): The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Oman offered condolences to the Republic of Sudan for the destruction caused by floods and torrential rains. The floods have swept away several regions of the country.

Oman conveyed its sincere condolences to the government of Sudan and the brotherly Sudanese people.

The Ministry also expressed condolences to the families of the victims and wished for a speedy recovery for the injured.

Floods in Sudan

More than 52 people have died as a result of the torrential rains which have flooded various areas throughout Sudan.

The torrential downpour has also resulted in 25 injuries and the destruction of thousands of homes, infrastructure, and agricultural lands.

Sudan – Oman Diplomatic Relations

Bilateral diplomatic relations between Sudan and Oman are long-standing and well-established.

Official relations between the Sudan and Oman began with the opening of the Sudanese Embassy in Muscat in 1977.

During the early 1970s, Oman called for Sudanese expertise and competencies in various fields, particularly in education.

Since then, the relationship between both countries has maintained steady progress. Furthermore, the relations have been characterized by positivity and cooperation in various fields.

Another important aspect of the relationship between both countries is cultural and communal relations. 

The bilateral relations have seen a boost in the aspect of economic cooperation through the establishment of financial and investment assemblies in the capitals of the two countries.

Economic cooperation also includes the trade exchange process, creating opportunities for investors and people in business in both countries.

Currently, several Omani companies are investing in various sectors of Sudan. The sectors include industry, agriculture, oil services, and more.

The relations between the two countries have also witnessed remarkable development in strengthening their cooperative ties in the fields of public and high education, health, justice, law, and other specialties.
