Islamabad, 13 August 2024 (TDI): Star Olympian Arshad Nadeem will be the chief guest at the Independence Day ceremony in Islamabad on Wednesday.
This was announced by Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar during a press talk in the federal capital on Tuesday.
Tarar said Nadeem will join Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in the flag-hoisting ceremony on August 14.
Arshad created history with a record-breaking throw of 92.97 metres, beating his Indian counterpart and defending champion Neeraj Chopra.
With his thrilling performance, Nadeem secured the first-ever individual gold medal for his country.
“Good news is coming from all directions,” the minister said, referring to nationwide celebrations for Arshad Nadeem’s Olympic triumph.
Pakistan’s first drone show
Arshad returned to a hero’s welcome on Sunday after winning an Olympic gold for Pakistan after 40 years in the men’s javelin throw event at the Paris Olympics 2024.
“Arshad Nadeem received a befitting welcome for his extraordinary achievement; his plane was given a water cannon salute,” Tarar said, adding that his journey from Mian Channu to Paris “deserves to be captured in a biographical film.”
