Doha, 3 November 2022 (TDI): Old Doha port officials revealed a new project to transform the area into a city that can be used as a tourist destination for the upcoming FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
During a press conference, the Executive Director of the Old Doha Port, Mohammed Abdulla Al Mulla said that the transformation has taken four years and was accompanied by the transfer of cargo operations to Hammad Port.
He further elaborated that the project was built on an area of 800.000 square meters. The project contains a central terminal for passengers which receives almost 300.000 tourists annually.
Mohammed Abdulla Al Mulla said that the project is expected to receive visitors through cruise ships. In this vein, he enunciated that the port will be officially inaugurated before the World Cup.
It will precede a trial opening, the working hours will be from 4 pm to 10 pm until November 15. The project is comprised of 50 cafes and restaurants.
Almost 100 shops most of which will be related to marine activities and the main hotel along with 150 hotel apartments are also included in the project. He added that the design was inspired by Qatari architecture with sea shipping containers.
Al Mulla briefed that the port will host three floating hotels during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 with a capacity for 12,000 people. The reservations can be made through the official platform ahead of the World cup.
For his part, the Head of operations and projects at the old Doha Port said the facilities including changing rooms, water supplies, and toilets will be provided on a daily or temporary basis to facilitate the activities.
He further deliberated that the port also includes 5 kilometers of environmentally friendly and comfortable Tartan running tracks.
There are another 5 kilometers of cycling paths, and all these facilities are interspersed with gardens and green spaces, on an area of 200 thousand square meters.
