North Korea to Cut Off Roads and Railways to South Korea

-

SEOUL, (TDI): North Korea’s military has said that it will completely cut off roads and railways connecting to South Korea from Wednesday, as well as fortifying its border areas.

The statement, reported by state media KCNA, signals an escalation of tensions near the demarcation line between the two Koreas, a situation that had been relatively calm in recent years until now.

In recent months, North Korea has been installing landmines, erecting barriers, and creating wasteland along the heavily militarized border, despite reports of accidents, according to South Korea’s military in July.

The General Staff of the Korean People’s Army stated that these actions are a response to military exercises conducted in South Korea, which it labels as “the primary hostile state and invariable principal enemy,” as well as the frequent deployment of U.S. strategic nuclear assets in the region.

In response, South Korea’s defense ministry confirmed that the United Nations Command (UNC) has been informed but refrained from providing further details.

The ministry emphasized that South Korea is maintaining close communication and cooperation with the UNC regarding the situation.
