SEOUL, September 7, 2024 (TDI): North Korea has criticized the joint military drills conducted by the United States and its allies, describing them as a serious threat to regional peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula.
According to North Korean state media, the United States and South Korea have been holding “provocative joint military drills” in succession, which are increasing military tensions in the region.
The chief of the Public Information Office of North Korea’s Ministry of National Defence stated that the US and its allies recently conducted their largest-ever joint military exercise, Ulchi Freedom Shield, from August 19 to 29. This exercise involved over 200 aircraft of various types, a US Army unit specializing in chemical, biological, radioactive, and nuclear threats, as well as troops from allied nations.
The official further claimed that over the past two months, US and South Korean forces have engaged in a range of war exercises targeting North Korea across ground, sea, and air domains. These actions, according to the official, are exacerbating tensions and could drive the security environment in the region into an irreversibly disastrous situation, leading to constant instability on the Korean Peninsula.
