Vienna (TDI): In the face of heightened tensions between Iran and Israel, the Chief of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said that the agency has so far detected no proof of any organized attempt by Tehran to create a nuclear weapon.
In a video interview, shared by Iranian Press TV, IAEA’s Director-General Rafael Grossi highlighted the agency’s technical evaluation, saying: “What we wrote down was that we did not have any evidence of a systematic effort by Iran to move towards a nuclear weapon.” The interview initially aired on CNN and is now making rounds on social media.
Grossi’s remarks counter growing speculation fueled by Israeli intelligence sources. A recent Times of Israel report cited claims by Israeli officials that Iranian scientists had conducted successful nuclear weapon design experiments, suggesting Iran could be mere weeks away from bomb production.
The report, quoting unnamed security officials, said this “golden information” spurred Israel’s recent preemptive strikes on Iranian positions. At the same time, the US State Department has echoed Trump administration’s strong position against Iran developing nuclear weapons.

In her remarks at a press briefing on Tuesday, State Department Spokesperson Tammy Bruce stated, “Now with the war of words between Iran and Israel, President Trump is also specific that Iran cannot possess a nuclear weapon… President Trump has explicitly stated Iran cannot be permitted to have a nuclear weapon.”
The interview surfaces as Israel and Iran are engaged in reciprocal military attacks for a consecutive sixth day, with sounds of explosions over Tel Aviv in early morning hours today. Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant issued a warning of “very significant targets in Tehran” being lined up in retaliation.
Despite the volatile backdrop, Grossi’s statement injects a measured tone into the narrative. “We deal with facts, not assumptions,” Grossi said during the interview, reiterating the IAEA’s mission of independent verification.
