Peshawar- 16 June 2021 (TDI): Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ali Alizada attended a ceremony as were in the Town Municipal Administration of Peshawar city retitled the Old Jamrud Road in University Town Peshawar as ‘Nizami Ganjavi Lane’.
Akbar Ayub Khan, Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, KP was the Chief Guest of the event. Ambassador Alizada was the guest of honor of the event. Khalid Mehmood, Deputy Commissioner/ Administrator City District Government Peshawar, Mian Shafique ur Rehman, DG, City District Government, Peshawar, Mr. Muhammad Asif Noor, Editor-In-Chief, The Diplomatic Insight were among the distinguished speakers on the occasion.
During the ceremony, the Ambassador of Azerbaijan delivered a keynote speech signifying the importance and strength of Azer-Pakistan bilateral relations. He expressed that Nizam Ganjavi, the great Azerbaijani poet and philosopher has contributed significantly to world literature. While discussing his significance, Mr. Alizada shared that The President of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev has declared the year 2021 as the “Year of Nizami Ganjavi”, nationally. He was of the view that the renaming of a lane after Nizami Ganjavi, in Peshawar is another tribute paid towards the legacy of the great poet. He called Pakistan and Azerbaijan as “brotherly nations”, declaring the firmness of friendly and strategic ties between both states. The two nations are culturally and historically intertwined, he shared. He finished his speech by expressing gratitude for the supportive and cooperative efforts made by the people and the government of Pakistan for promoting the bilateral relations between both nations.
Speaking on the occasion Akbar Ayub Khan, Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, KP said that Pakistan values its strong brotherly ties with Azerbaijan. He said that this event will go a long way in building people-to-people understanding and ties.

The Ambassador of Azerbaijan also planted a sapling on the occasion as a commemoration of Pakistan Azerbaijan’s deep-rooted diplomatic ties.
