‘New Uzbekistan’ Residential Complex Proposed in Islamabad

Islamabad (TDI): Pakistan and Uzbekistan are exploring new avenues for collaboration in urban development, with plans being discussed to construct a “New Uzbekistan” residential complex and park in Islamabad.

The discussions were reported following a meeting between Uzbekistan’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Alisher Tukhtaev, and representatives of Pakistani developer Habib Rafiq Pvt. Ltd.

During the meeting, both sides explored potential joint initiatives and strategies to strengthen long-term partnerships. Ambassador Tukhtaev briefed the Pakistani company on Uzbekistan’s investment climate, highlighting the role of free economic zones, the countrywide rollout of New Uzbekistan residential areas, and the ongoing New Tashkent city project.

He also outlined tax and customs incentives for foreign investors, administrative support for large-scale developments, and Uzbekistan’s strategic position along key Eurasian transport corridors, according to media reports.

Habib Rafiq’s General Manager, Aslam Malik, praised Uzbekistan’s reform agenda, calling it “highly favorable for foreign investors, particularly in construction and infrastructure.” He noted that simplified procedures and enhanced business guarantees are already producing tangible results.

“We are well aware of the changes taking place in Uzbekistan’s construction sector,” Malik said. “The country has gained significant experience in infrastructure development, modern housing, and urban planning. We are keen to study this expertise and participate in future projects.”

The Pakistani delegation also showcased Capital Smart City, its flagship urban development near Islamabad, covering 2,800 hectares and featuring residential buildings, schools, kindergartens, sports facilities, and modern parks. Construction is underway on Silicon Village, envisioned as Pakistan’s own version of Silicon Valley.

Malik proposed establishing a New Uzbekistan-themed residential area and park within Capital Smart City, contributing to projects in New Tashkent, and organizing official visits between leadership teams. He also invited prominent Uzbek construction companies to explore opportunities in Pakistan.

Abid Kabir Chima, CEO of Silicon Village, expressed interest in extending cooperation with Uzbekistan’s technopark initiatives.
