Islamabad, 24 May 2022 (TDI): Newly-appointed US Ambassador to Pakistan, Donald Blome, began his assignment at the US Embassy, Islamabad on Monday.

Previously, the US Senate confirmed Donald Blome’s assignment to Pakistan in March. He was sworn in as the US Ambassador to Pakistan on 11 April 2022.

Announcing his confirmation, the State Department’s Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs stated that “Partnership with Pakistan is key to progress on regional security, trade and investment, the climate crisis, and human rights.”

Moreover, the US embassy in Islamabad announced that Ambassador Blome will work to deepen connections between the two peoples. Furthermore, he will work with the government of Pakistan towards a more stable, secure, and prosperous future for Pakistan.

Meanwhile, Ambassador Blome expressed, “I am thrilled to be in Pakistan. I look forward to exploring this beautiful country and acquainting myself with its people and its culture.”

“Most importantly, in this 75th year of U.S.-Pakistan relations, I will continue to build on the strong relationship between our countries.”, he said in a statement.

The United States has appointed an ambassador to Pakistan after four years. The preceding ambassador, David Hale, retired in 2018.

Ambassador Donald Blome

David Blome is a career diplomat who previously served as the US Ambassador to Tunisia from 2019 to 2022. Moreover, he has also worked as the Chargé d’Affaires at the Libya External Office in Tunis, Tunisia. In addition to working as the Consul General at the U.S. Consulate in Jerusalem.

Furthermore, he has served the State Department as the Director of the Office of Arabian Peninsula Affairs (2013 – 2015). Ambassador Blome was the Political Counselor in the Kabul embassy from 2012 to 2013.

He has also served in the US embassy in Egypt as the Minister-Counselor for Economic and Political Affairs (2009-2012).  He also served as the Civilian Co-Director, Multinational Force Strategic Engagement Cell, Baghdad, Iraq (2007-2008) and as Political Counselor, Embassy Kuwait (2006-2007).

The United States and Pakistan are celebrating 75 years of diplomatic ties this year.
